Course Descriptions
PetCPR+ Certification program is our flagship program designed to teach the participant the fundamentals of canine and feline CPR and First Aid. It is ideal for anyone who loves animals including animal professionals, obedience trainers, kennel staff, pet retailers, pet sitters, animal shelter staff/volunteers, rescue personnel, groomers, First Responders, Fire/EMT and pet owners. This course will provide an overview of what to do for a pet in an emergency situation prior to getting veterinary care. Curriculum for all classes is developed by licensed veterinary professionals using veterinary industry standard methods of emergency medical care.
Learning Objectives:
- Safety techniques when working with sick and/or injured animals
- How to perform emergency triage and assess if an animal is experiencing a life threatening medical emergency
- How to restrain and properly transport sick and/or injured animals
- How to provide emergency first aid to dogs and cats en-route to veterinary care
- How to take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, CRT) and determine normal vs abnormal readings
- Learn about the importance of the pet first aid kit and how to use the materials in it during an emergency
- How to manage and provide first aid for many common medical emergencies such as severe wounds, poisoning, burns, choking and more
- How to perform the most current industry standard method of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on dogs and cats (Participants will receive a PetCPR+ Certification valid for 2 years)
The Wilderness First Aid for Dogs course is for outdoor enthusiasts who like to take their dogs on their adventures where access to emergency veterinary care is unavailable. Learn to help increase your dog’s chance of survival and/or prevent their medical emergencies from getting worse by knowing what to do when emergencies happen during outdoor activities. This is a comprehensive detailed program that focuses on wilderness first aid and the management of medical emergencies that can happen to your dog in remote areas, trail hiking, camping, water activities and more. Topics to be discussed include: how to perform emergency triage on your dog, safely transport injured animals to veterinary care from remote locations, how to obtain vital signs, determine normal vs abnormal readings, materials in a canine wilderness first aid kit and what each is used for, how to manage medical emergencies such as wounds, fractures, heat stroke, snake bites, burns, choking and more.
Learning Objectives:
- How to perform restraint and transport of an injured dog from a remote area
- How to perform emergency triage and assess a dog’s condition who has experienced a medical emergency
- How to maintain safety of people and dogs in an emergency
- How to provide emergency first aid to dogs en-route to veterinary care
- How to take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, CRT) and determine normal vs abnormal readings
- Learn about the importance of the wilderness pet first aid kit, survival kit and the pet medical first aid kit and how to use the materials contained in it during an emergency
- How to manage and provide first aid for many common medical emergencies experienced during outdoor activities such as heatstroke, wounds, wild animal encounters, snake bites, poisoning, burns, choking, CPR and more. (please note: although this class teaches the basics of canine CPR, this is a wilderness first aid class only and does not certify the participant in pet CPR.
