Deluxe Certification Courses

Pet Emergency Academy on demand virtual courses are deluxe certification courses that cover a wide array of animal emergency and health care curriculum. Each one takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete. You do not have to finish the course in one sitting and may log in and out as much as you like. 

Each course contains a variety of assigned readings, activities, training videos and a quizzes. There is a comprehensive final exam at the end of each course. Courses are asynchronous which means that there are no live components and participants can complete the course at their own pace, logging in and out as much as they like however they must complete the course within 30 days or it will expire.

Course Offerings

Registration Fee $74.95

This pet CPR and first aid certification program is designed to teach the participant the fundamentals of canine and feline CPR and First Aid. It is ideal for anyone who loves animals including animal professionals, obedience trainers, kennel staff, pet retailers, pet sitters, animal shelter staff/volunteers, rescue personnel, groomers, First Responders, Fire/EMT and pet owners. This course will provide an overview of what to do for a pet in an emergency situation prior to getting veterinary care. Curriculum for all classes is developed by licensed veterinary professionals using veterinary industry standard methods of emergency medical care.

The Advanced Certification program is designed for veterinary professionals specifically such as Veterinary Technicians, Assistants, and support personnel that work in veterinary facilities particularly general practices. This class is RACE approved for Veterinary  Technicians only.  Our certification classes are becoming the choice for veterinary hospitals and clinics to validate their staff training for accreditation. Disclaimer: Licensed Veterinarians will find that the material covered in this program is too basic for their needs as the course is geared towards vet techs and support staff.

The Wilderness First Aid for Dogs course is for outdoor enthusiasts who like to take their dogs on their adventures where access to emergency veterinary care is unavailable. Learn to help increase your dog’s chance of survival and/or prevent their medical emergencies from getting worse by knowing what to do when emergencies happen during outdoor activities. This is a comprehensive detailed program that focuses on wilderness first aid and the management of medical emergencies that can happen to your dog in remote areas, trail hiking, camping, water activities, and more. Disclaimer:  Some of the topics in this course are also covered in our Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid course. Additional material has been added to this course to focus on injuries and situations that can happen with dogs engaging in outdoor activities.

Our Emergency First Aid for Horses provides an introductory overview of how to manage common medical emergencies when they happen to horses. This does not include any advanced veterinary medical content regulated by law and the State Veterinary Practice Act. Topics include: Transporting and restraining sick and/or injured horses, how to prepare an emergency plan and first aid kit for your farm, how to perform triage, physical assessments including obtaining vital signs, traumatic injuries such as wounds and fractures, how to apply an emergency splint, how to perform quick release ties and use safety ropes, important supplies in the equine first aid kit and how to use them, severe bleeding, burns, eye injuries, digestive Issues, emergencies that happen on the trail and horse shows and more.

The Exotics First Aid and Care is a program designed to teach the participant the importance of proper husbandry, handling, nutrition, and first aid for a variety of exotic pets such as birds, reptiles, amphibians, and small pocket pets. This course provides an overview on how to prevent and manage minor wounds, and emergencies that may present a life-threatening medical emergency that can occur with our exotic pets. It focuses on proper husbandry and nutrition to help prevent common ailments, and how to to apply first-aid techniques to either try to keep the animal alive or prevent its condition from getting worse prior to arriving at a veterinary facility.

This course provides an introductory overview of how to provide initial emergency first aid and perform triage on cattle, small ruminants, and swine until veterinary care can be ascertained. The curriculum also teaches how to maintain proper herd management utilized in both companion and food animal husbandry environments. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster plan curriculum for livestock will also be discussed.

This course is a customized version of our PetCPR+ Certification program and is designed to train animal groomers, salon staff and owners how to manage medical emergencies that can happen in the grooming environment. There are a number of injuries that can occur in a grooming salon such as heatstroke, lacerations from shears/clippers, stress anxiety and more. It provides the participant an overview of what to do in an emergency situation at the salon prior to obtaining veterinary care.
