PCPR-Lesson 1- Safely Muzzling a Dog

An injured dog, no matter how gentle, has a propensity to bite when hurt or injured. Animals will not understand your intentions and may act out in a very dangerous manner. Any dog might think that what you are doing is what’s causing their pain. Instinctively they may bite to protect themselves from further harm. An emergency muzzle can be a very useful tool and, if done correctly, can protect you from a dangerous bite. It can be made with a shoelace, string, leash, necktie, ace bandage, belt, or anything that is long enough to wrap around the dog’s muzzle.

** DO NOT APPLY A MUZZLE TO A DOG THAT IS UNCONSICIOUS, VOMITING, HAVING DIFFICULTY BREATHING OR SEIZURING.
